Mountain flights have, of late, become a popular tourist attraction in Nepal. Four airlines offer regular flights into the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas. Mountain flights appeal to all categories of travellers. For those who are restricted by time, or other considerations, from going trekking, these flights offer a panoramic view of the Himalaya in just one hour. Travelers take off from Kathmandu in the early morning for an hour-long flight of spectacular mountain views.
We offer you a panoramic encounter with the highest, most majestic mountains on earth. The 14 seater plane departs from Kathmandu and flies alongside the Himalayas to give the visitor eye-level views of the snow peaks. Cruising close to the awesome massifs of rock and ice, the flight is indeed a never to be forgotten experience.
The hour-long flight takes a course parallel to the Himalayan range and runs along the southern flank of the chain in an easterly direction. Along the way one can sight Gosainkhund, the Holy Lake, after which the tall mountains come into view: Shishapangma, Dorje Lakpa, Phurbi Chyachu and Choba Bhamare. In the next series are Gauri Shankar, Melungtse, Chugimago, Numbur Kayrolang, Cho Oyo, Gyachungkang and Pomori. However, these are the entrees. Next on the menu is Nuptse, followed by the majestic form of Everest itself. Known as Everest in the west, the awesome peak is called Sagarmatha by the Nepalese and Chomolongma by the Tibetans. Staring into the face of this wonder of nature at 8848 metres above sea level, one cannot help but wonder at the enigma of its solitude.
